Our wine list will be ever changing but will always be about where the wine comes from, who grew the grapes, who made the wine, why it tastes as it does. It will always be about quality, and, crucially value for money.
Our “wino” who selects the wines did an apprenticeship in a winery in Germany, also making wines in France and Australia, and has spent over 25 years as a wine merchant in the UK.
There’s a separate cellar selection list of fine, rare or small oddments, so please ask if you’d like to see that, or want some more information on any of the wines.

Finest craft beers on keg and cask

We’re very keen here at Origin to provide the finest craft beers on keg and cask, craft cider and local and continental lagers. We have 3 cask ales and a tap wall with 12 taps available that are regularly rotated around some core pours. We’re passionate about local suppliers and beers are no exception. We have our Origin Lager made for us by Three Brothers in Darlington, as well as rotating beers from Bayonet Brewing in Northallerton and you can’t get more local than that!

We also have a regular pour from other Yorkshire breweries such as Brew York, Timothy Taylors, Brass Castle, Rudgate, as well as Anarchy, Camerons and Torrside from slightly further afield. We love IPAs across the board – who doesn’t?! - but we also love a crafty stout and a crazy stout, sours and pale ales, fruity or not, so look at the beer screen when you’re in, or check in with the team before you come out if you want to know today’s pours. We also have a range of bottles and cans including some low / no alcohol beers.We have Appleshed Original Cider from Herefordshire on tap, plus a selection of bottles from Orchards Of Husthwaite from just down the road.

  • MONTE SCHIAVO PALLIO DI SAN FLORIANO VERDICCHIO CLASSICO SUPERIORE 2020 V/VE/O
    A richly flavoured & complex late harvest Verdicchio from Monte Schiavo's prized 'Fossato' vineyard. Low yielding vines are hand harvested in October in several passes & the grapes are fermented using local yeasts. Intense & persistent aromas of honey, almond blossom & toasted nuts & with developed ripe fruit characters. Textural & full flavoured with concentrated peachy fruit balanced by crisp acidity &stony mineral notes. The finish is long & nuanced with zesty grapefruit & lime flavours & complex savoury notes.   • CHATEAU PIERRE BISE LE HAUT DE LA GARADE 2016 LOIRE VALLEY
    Owned by Claude & Joëlle Papin, the vignoble du Château spans 55 hectares & applies a theory of ‘non-action’ is practised, delegating the care of the land as much as possible to nature; no fertilisers are used, humus is widely applied to encourage micro-organisms & aeration of soils & there is a strong focus on the role of biodiversity in the vineyard. Sheep are used to mow the grass between rows, & hens are used to control the snail population, with the added benefit of providing natural manure to the soils. The approach to winemaking is simple: to intervene as little as possible using natural fermentation with indigenous yeasts. The estate is currently was in organic conversion when this wine was made.

  • FEUDO MACCARI FAMILY OF FRIENDS GRILLO 2018 SICILY V/VE
    Fermented in small concrete eggs and oak barrels for at least 16 days. Maturation then takes place in cement and French oak barriques for at least 6 months and a further 6 months in bottle. A restrained and complex nose with hints of dried fruit, orange peel and papaya. Ripe stone fruit characters and spicy oak lead to a creamy, textured palate nicely offset by taut acidity and a long, savoury finish.

    Oakridge's 864 series represents a number of micro-selections across propitiously situated blocks in the finest single vineyards. Made simply, with whole-bunch pressing to oak, 20% new, fermentation took place under the aegis of ambient yeasts. The result is a stunning wine of verve, with stone fruit, oatmeal and truffle splayed across a tensile spine of bright acidity and smoky mineral crunch. The oak imparts some cinnamon cream. The finish stains the mouth, driven long by the immaculate structural supports and intensity of fruit.

  • THE EDINBURGH WINE COMPANY “SCOT’S FOLLY” COUP DE GRACE VAUCLUSE ROUGE 2 FRANCE V/VE
    Vaucluse lies just outside the Côtes-du-Rhône appellation & permits a variety called Caladoc, a Grenache / Malbec cross. Medium to full bodied, Caladoc makes a fifth of the blend along the same proportion of Grenache Noir & three fifths Syrah. After vinification in stainless steel tanks the wine is aged for 6 months in barrels previously used to mature Scotch Whisky. This wine displays a nose of deep, ripe blueberry jam & juniper. Bodly textural with flavours of rich fruit cake & dark bramble fruit. Enormously long wood smoke finish.

  • YANGARRA ESTATE MOURVEDRE 2015 MCLAREN VALE AUSTRALIA ORGANIC BIODYNAMIC V/VE
    A seriously cerebral organic Mourvèdre from Winemaker of the Year 2016, Pete Fraser. It’s so fresh & vibrant, gently herbal, warm & spicy with a brilliantly balanced, bright & lifted palate. From a very low yielding vintage, hand-picked whole berries were double sorted before going into open-top fermenters. The fermentation tanks were cold soaked for 5-6 days until the onset of wild yeast fermentation. The open fermenters underwent a careful regime of plunging and drain & returns. The wine was then sent to older French barriques after about 12-14 days & kept on the yeast lees for approximately 9 months prior to blending. The wine received no fining.

  • DEEP WOODS ESTATE BLOCK 7 RESERVE SHIRAZ 2013 MARGARET RIVER AUSTRALIA
    Loaded with primary fruit aromas of blueberries, plums and raspberry pastilles, the wine has an alluring charm with liquorice and savoury spice notes adding intrigue. The palate exhibits juicy dark plum and sweet red berry flavours with underlying hints of white pepper. Whilst the palate is well supported by seasoned French oak, the tannins are soft, round and very fleshy.

  • SALENTEIN PR1MUS MALBEC 2016 VALLE DE UCO ARGENTINA
    Intense, complex aroma of red and black berries, spices, such as clove and black pepper; the palate is full-bodied yet remarkably well-balanced with plenty of freshness to carry the fruit. The grapes are grown 1,150 metres above sea level on low-yielding vines in the Finca El Oasis vineyard. Fermented in French oak vats with manual ‘punching-down’ of the caps, then aged for 19 months in French oak; no fining was carried out.

  • GOMEZ CRUZADO RIOJA CRIANZA 2015 – MAGNUM
    The Gómez Cruzado winery dates back to 1886 when Angel Gómez de Arteche started to produce and bottle his own wine in Haro, at the very heart of Rioja Alta. All grapes are hand picked and hand sorted, the Tempranillo from vineyards planted in the foothills of the Cantabrian mountains, and from the lower course of the Najerilla river. The Garnacha vines are planted near the higher course of the Najerilla (near Badarán). Soil types are a combination of alluvial, sandstone-clay and ferrous-clay. Fermentation in cone-shaped stainless steel tanks is followed by 12 months maturation in, mostly new, American oak barriques. A very full, rich & fruity style of Crianza from a brilliant vintage.

    Aged for 10 years in a large oak barrel, this is from a great vintage, up there with 1988 and 1997, and is a fitting tribute to mark Montresor’s 100th Anniversary – incredibly complex, ask for a decanter, sit back and wonder. A True vino di meditazione.

  • GOMEZ CRUZADO RIOJA RESERVA 2012 – MAGNUM RIOJA SPAIN
    This Reserva is the result of a perfect combination of Tempranillo fruit from different terroirs - the alluvial soils give ripeness and elegance, whilst the limestone-clay soils add structure and silkiness. The wine is then aged for 18 months in 50% French & 50% American oak barriques (new and second year) Pronounced black cherry, cedar & spice aromas. The palate is supple yet richly-flavoured with layers of dark plum, bramble fruit and cherry supported by well-integrated tannins. Toasty notes, black pepper & dried fruit characters on the finish.
